Bible Class Topic: Patience As The Needful For All Believers

Bible Text:

Ecl: 7:8

"Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit."

The word patience could mean perseverance, persistence, tolerance, fortitude, forbearance, endurance and imperturbability.

The question is…. Why patience? We should exhibit patience because it is a nature we have received from God at birth in Christ (Rom 15:5). Also we have to exhibit patience because circumstances warrant that. (ie situations emanating from man and devil) 2 Cor 6:4.

It is our responsibility to exhibit patience when situations arise, the Holy Ghost cannot do that for us. Therefore, Patience is one of the inherent attributes of a believer (the spirit of the man that is recreated in Christ). In other words is one of the fruits a believer bears (see Gal 5:22-23, 1 Tim 6:11, Col 3:12 – 15, 2 Peter 1:5-7) As a result, patience is what we develop as we come into faith into Christ.

(2). Where do we exercise patience? In our engagements with fellowmen and negative circumstances that are created by the devil. (Rom 5:3)

Other Areas:

a. In judging others -: see Jn 8: 2- 10, 2 Peter 3:15

b. In our expectations -: see Heb 6:12, Heb 10:36, Jas 1:4, Jas 5:7

c. In our ministries and all faith involvements-: see Heb 12:1, Jas 1:3, 1Cor 9:27

d. In facing the devil and wicked men -: Jas 4:7

e. In facing affliction -: 1Cor 4:11-12, 2Cor 4:10, 16-17

(3) Patience is the big faith and the big hope! Therefore, it should be the lifestyle of every believer. See Rom 8:25, Rom 5:4 Luk 21:19.

To be impatience at any time means lack of spiritual maturity. Even if you are reviled, don’t be in haste in taking decisions and as things unfolds the grey areas will become clearer to you and you will have the right judgment to render.
