The Things To Put Off As Believers (Part Three)

In this series of teachings we shall be learning about the things we should put off as believers. I hope this teaching will bless us so much and we can be able to teach same accordingly in our local churches and Sunday schools.

Text Of Interest:

“But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;”
 (Colossians 3:8-9).
“But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;”
(Ephesians 4:20-22).
In the last episode we learnt about Malice and Blasphemy.

In this episode we are going to talk more on Blasphemy and Filthy communications. Let’s see reasons why we should put these things off from our lives.

Why We Must Put Off Blasphemy And Filthy Communications In Our Life:

1.    Because we have been commanded to take it off from our lives: So we should obey the word of God and do so. Let’s see what Apostle Peter says to us in his epistle “Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings” (1 Peter 2:1). Apostle Peter says we should lay it aside, meaning we don’t need it among us as believers. It is an evil attitude from the devil. “Therefore we should put it off from us.” And then we should do verse two of the same chapter says “let’s see it “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:2), this should be our goal, to desire the right word of God, so that we can be nourished in the Lord.

2.    It shows that our heart is filled with evil – (Matt 12:34-35) “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.” And if our heart is filled with evil things we will be attracting evil things too – example magnet.

3.    It shows that we have not allowed the Holy Ghost to fill our hearts – (Eph 5:18-19) “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;”

4.    It shows we are not living in the Spirit and are not led by Him – (Gal 5:25) “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Also see (Rom 8:14).

5.    We shall be judged by what we say - (Matt 12:36-37) “But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”

How To Avoid Blasphemy and Filthy Communications

1.    Let the Word of God filled your heart – (Col 3:16) “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Whatever your heart is filled with your will always bring forth!

2.   Renew your mind with word of God – (Rom 12:2) “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

3.    Let your words be filled with grace – (Col 4:6) “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
