The Believer And Evangelism – Tribute to the Evangelist

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of Godthat brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith

Romans 1:16-18 (NIV)

One of the things that reveals a truly and genuinely believer is his desire to save other souls. This is as a result of his realization of what it means to be a believer and what has eluded him all the while he was in the state of incredulity. And now it is crystal clear that he has been missing out of the grace God has offered mankind in Christ. His perception about things of this life has changed; he now sees the world as a dungeon and as a matter of fact people should be rescued from the destruction in it.

Hence the zeal and the quest to save people through the gospel ignite in his heart like a burning goad. He cannot hold himself back from speaking the word of God with great zeal and recklessness sometimes. The recklessness is not born out of share stupidity of arrogance but is born out of the desire to see  lost souls being saved. This zeal is called the cutting edge zeal or first timer zeal because it is energetically demonstrated and showcased.

Here, it wouldn't be a surprising thing seeing this category of believers crying bitterly while speaking to unbelievers to change and accept Christ in his hearts. Sometimes one finds them speaking to old friends or colleagues in an impolite manner while trying to persuade them to come over to Christ. Another thing this zeal quickens is that, many among this category of believers that are of the shy and timid type, once they have received Christ in their life, an inner boldness starts resonating in them. One finds them speaking out boldly and confronting issues with great temerity.

Evangelism is part and parcel of a believer’s life. Anyone that says he’s saved and finds it difficult to go out and preach Christ, his salvation should be examined. The truth is that, he is not saved; he is hiding under the covering of being born again. The quest to save souls is the main desire of any believer and it doesn’t diminish rather, it grows from one level to another level. As simple as it may look or appear, evangelism is one of the hardest venture and engagement one can take.

It comes with loads of issues. While carrying out the duty of evangelism, one can be insulted, assaulted, persecuted in divers manners including imprisonment. Many believers have been killed because they decided to go preach Christ to the unsaved. And many who are into full time evangelism finds it difficult coalescing evangelism with family caring; in fact they are not always at home to see how better their families are faring.

No one doing this job now is different from the early apostles that did it. Apostle Paul in one of his epistles narrated his ordeals while in the field of evangelism (2 Corinthians 11:25-29). Most times, these missionaries earthly wise go wretched in life, sometimes, they are found hungry not because they are fasting but because of lack of the basic necessities of life. Many are the ordeals of the soul winners especially the missionaries but one thing you cannot take away from them is that no matter the ordeal; they are the happiest people on earth because they are the people that make heaven rejoice each day!

And not only that they are the happiest people on earth; they are also the most wise among all men on this planet earth. The bible says that he that wins a soul is wise (Proverbs 11:30) KJV. This is true because it takes the power of the most high in a man to convince another man whose heart is harden to open it for Christ to come in. A man that possesses such power is wise indeed!
