Topic: Peace
Meaning: The word peace can be associated with such words
like – Amity, Concord, Harmony, reconciliation, etc. However, peace can also be defined as a product of trust
Text Study:
“Grace and peace be multiplied
unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, according
as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life
and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory
and virtue:” 2Peter 1:2-3
Kinds of
Peace: There are two kinds of peace as stipulated by our Lord Jesus.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world
giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be
afraid.” Jn 14:27.
Peace is
one of the fruits a recreated spirit bears
“But the
fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,
faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Gal 5:22-23
The Way to
have/receive Peace:
“For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the
middle wall of partition between us;” Eph 2:14
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee.” Isa 26:3
“He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in
the LORD.” Ps 112:7
How Peace
can multiply: Ref 2 Peter 1:2-3
With and without knowledge – Job 3:25, Job lived a life of fear because
he lack knowledge of who God is to him. When he knew better his confession
changed (Job 42:1-6). But Elisha knew what God better therefore, in the midst
of situation he was at peace (2King 6:15-17)
Focal Point
– Knowledge
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto
you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: Eph 1:17
The verse above implies that without the knowledge of God and
Jesus Christ, we will remain in dire need of peace in our life. The knowledge
of God to have is the revelation knowledge not just surface knowledge. Such
knowledge is a function of total comprehension of what the scriptures says
concerning one and his relationship with God and Jesus Christ. By this
knowledge one can understand what his or her position is in Christ, what he or
she has been made to be in Christ and those things he/she can put on and put
off. That is his/her privileges and
responsibilities in God.
Examples of privileges Ref: Col 3:10, Rom 8:15, 17, 29,
1Peter 2:9 etc.
Examples of responsibilities 2Peter 1:5-8, Gal 5:22, Col
3:8-9, 12-15, Gal 4:22-25.
Certainly, peace will reign when we actually know the
privileges and responsibilities God has given us. This is what it means to walk
by faith and not by sight.
