Bible Class Topic: Relationship

Relationship: Meaning - Association, Connection, Affiliation, Bond, and Rapport etc.

As Christians we are in a relationship with God, as in Father and son relationship, this relationship gives us the entitlement or privilege to become heirs of God. Also as Christians we are allowed to enter into other relationships, like: Business and partnership, Friendship, Marriage or family and in believers etc.

1.      In business or partnership relationship we become partners or associates.
2.      In friendship relationship we become friends.
3.      In Marriage relationship we become either husband or wife.
4.      And in the Church we have brethren.

The above relationships are defined within their borders and by the practices involved in them. In other words it is proper to misinterpret them by mixing them up, which will of course produce a bad product.
However, the most important relationship is the man to God relationship. How better the other relationship fares depends on one’s understanding of the meaning of his or her relationship with God. Whatever one does in the rest relationship will and should be pivoted around his or her relationship with God. Therefore, one can do away with the rest relationship inasmuch as he or she is in God he or she is complete and if the reverse is the case, it becomes a terrible situation and that is to say the person in question has nothing to do with eternal life.
In this series we are going particularize and dwell a little longer on marriage relationship

Marriage Relationship:
Before one goes into marriage relationship, the most important thing to consider is his or her relationship with God. In doing that one has to comply with what Rom 12: 1-2, Consider 1 Cor 6:20, Phil 2:12. However, is important to note this fact that anything that will affect your relationship with God can be discarded, marriage inclusive. Therefore, marriage is very important in the life a believer but is the ultimate thing in his or her. The ultimate thing is for a believer to fulfill his ministry in Christ (Col 4:17).

Can someone stay without been married?

The answer is an emphatic yes! (1 Cor 7:8) The ultimate thing in life is having Jesus Christ as your lord and savior and fulfilling the call on your life. In the life after, no one will be marrying, therefore marriage is earthly thing.

Why should one marry? (1 Cor 7:9)

Can a Christian marry and unbeliever? The answer is no… (2 Cor 6:14) Unless there is a divine intervention…And if you are already married to an unbeliever continue in the marriage (1 Cor 7:13 -14)

How To Select:

1.      It is good to consider all the physical endowments in woman or man while making selection but it is better to select from the spiritual quality, considering your relationship with God. That is to say that because of one’s relationship with God any other physical ability and disability should not be considered while making selection though they are important.
2.      The word submission is a constant word in marriage, therefore before a woman should agree she should consider the fact that the man she says yes to must be the kind of man she has to submit to if not she should say no to the marriage proposal. (Eph 5:22, Col 3:18, 1 Peter 3:5) Again, the submission should be in respect to your relationship with God mostly.

There Are Positions In Marriage:

At the inception of the marriage this must be considered by the intending couples and that is, in a marriage relationship, the husband is the head and the wife is not the neck or tail, but his companion. So it requires that the wife should submit to her husband (Eph 5:23 -24, 1 Cor 11:3 -11)
How To Relate In Marriage
The key points are love and submission. The husband has to love the wife as Christ loves the Church. This means the love of the husband to his wife should be an unconditional love, a love that is very sincere. Notice, that marriage represents the relationship Christ has with the Church. And the wife should be in submission to the husband, just as she submits to Christ, because the husband represents Christ in the family; (Col 3:18 – 22, Eph 5:28 – 29).
